Hello, Eleventy

A first post, mostly to check that posts, tags, and the home page listing all work together.

This is a sample post, created while scaffolding the site. Feel free to delete it once you have real content -- it's here mainly to exercise the home page listing, the per-post layout, and the tag pages.

Front matter

Every post lives in its own dated folder under src/posts/, e.g. src/posts/2026-10-05-hello-eleventy/index.md, which keeps any post-specific images or data files bundled alongside the post itself. The shared layout and the "posts" tag (used to build collections.posts) come from src/posts/posts.json, a directory data file -- so each post's own front matter only needs to set what's actually specific to it: title, description, date, and topic tags.

A code block

Fenced code blocks get syntax-highlighted automatically at build time:

# a short rolling-mean helper
rolling_mean <- function(x, k) {
  n <- length(x)
  sapply(seq_len(n - k + 1), function(i) mean(x[i:(i + k - 1)]))
}

rolling_mean(1:10, k = 3)

What's next

The tags page lists every tag used across posts, and the RSS feed at /feed.xml updates automatically as new posts are added.
